Dissolution of the Foundation

On April 12, 2006, the Jubilee Foundation of Credit Suisse Group established the non-profit Alfred Escher Foundation with the purpose of promoting historical-critical research into the life and work of Alfred Escher, as stated in the foundation's statutes. Thanks to the extremely generous financial support of Swiss Life, Swiss RE, Credit Suisse, Göhner Foundation, Baumgarten Foundation, SBB and SBB Historic, Canton of Zurich and Lottery Fund of the Canton of Zurich, as well as the City of Zurich and numerous other donors, it was possible to realise the publication of the letters by and to Alfred Escher, first in book form and then in a digital edition. In addition, further publications were issued under the auspices of and by Joseph Jung.
The purpose of the Foundation can therefore be considered fulfilled and the Board, also against the background of the exhausted funds, decided in its meeting on 9 September 2021 to liquidate the Alfred Escher Foundation at the end of the year and to apply for its dissolution to the Foundation Supervisory Authority after the liquidation has been carried out.
The digital letter edition will continue to be available for research and the interested public. However, the Foundation's website will be dissolved at the end of the year.
